Internet Adventures: Hire a fake Girlfriend for $5

Sometimes you really think you know the internet. You learn how to research the furthest corners of search engines, navigate your way through badly designed sites and maybe download a few HBO episodes from some really shady-looking places on the net. And then you come across a site like GirlfriendHire.com and realize, you don’t know sh*t.

GirlfriendHire is a website that allows you to hire girls for just $5 a pop to pretend to be your girlfriend via text/Facebook/email/phone and do just about anything a girlfriend would do– except what you’re thinking. GirlfriendHire.com is not an adult-only service (despite that whole “browsing/ buying girls” theme going on) and there are no “dirty” services available.

The site’s primary target seems to be teenage boys who want to appear desirable by having someone pose as their girlfriend, banking on the theory that women are by nature, jealous creatures and don’t really know what they want until another female pees on it, or something like that.

Typical girlfriend services on offer include public flirting on Facebook, sending naughty texts (that he could show off to his friends) and generally encouraging young men to lie, cheat and hire women as a means to a successful love life. Jee! But it gets better! You can also hire a girl to do your homework for you, break up with a girl for you or even stalk you!

“I will Message you on facebook demanding to know why your relationship status still says Single for $5″

– An offer from user “Yellobel“, who guarantees: “Nothing makes you look more desirable than having someone who’s obsessed with you. This leaves you single to get a real girlfriend but makes it look like you went out with a cute girl a few times who got really attached to you. Other girls will get interested in following the drama.”

How it works:

GirlfriendHire.com was founded by 22 year old college student, Cody Krecicki. He says his aim is to “make a niche for girls that are in college to make money while they’re busy going to class.”
Some girls like to keep it simple with more classic suggestions such as: “I will post a comment on your Facebook wall for $5.” And other girls will pretty much do anything for 5 bucks …

Cody admits the site does have a lot of spam accounts and recommended choosing girls with good feedback at the top and also just using common sense by looking at the picture. For example if this doesn’t look like the kind of girl who would be earning money off of your solitude by sending Facebook messages or creepy texts for $5 payments– she probably isn’t real and you’ll get ripped off.

I do love the direction in which our society is going.

And I bet only really awesome people pay for this.
