Tucked away under a tattoo parlour in a basement store on the Lower East Side, the sweet smelling solution to a heavy night out in New York awaits…
The Prohibition bakery is the brainchild of two bright New Yorkers, Brooke Siem and Leslie Feinberg, who aren’t necessarily alcoholics themselves, they just happen to be members of the “it’s okay to drink before midday” club. In fact one of their mottos is: “Drinking rum before 10am makes you a pirate, not an alcoholic.”
Brooke is a classically trained chef and Leslie is a lifelong baker and long-time bartender. Together, they make little life-saving cupcakes flavours such as the White Russian, Pretzels & Beer, Penicillin and Mulled Wine. Check out the menu here.
And we’re not talking meekly-infused Haagen Dazs-style rum raisin cupcakes– we’re talking healthy doses of matured, twelve-year old scotch-infused cupcakes. In fact, you can’t actually buy these cupcakes if you’re not carrying your (over 21) ID.
Blink and you might walk right past the cozy little inconspicuous spot on Clinton Street, but to help lure New Yorkers off their wagons and into the store (see what I did there), there’s the infamous Prohibition Bakery chalkboard that the girls say is like a Twitter feed for sidewalks.
Sixty percent of the time it works every time. We’re talking to you @timdybvig #tinder #datenight #success #Saturdaynight #boozycupcakes

If you’re also thinking this might be a great idea for an event, whether it be someone’s birthday, bachelorette party or even their wedding, the Prohibition Bakery is one step ahead of you. They cater for parties, weddings and even offer boozy baking classes.
So if you’re in New York, you know where you’re heading after work and if you’re soon to visit New York, you know where you’re heading straight after the airport.
