I received an invitation I think you should know about. If you’ve ever walked into an old church in Europe and wondered what they’re hiding in the crypt or what those carvings in the alcoves really symbolise, you may want to make sure you’re in Paris on December the 16th.
It was three years ago when I first heard of the secret nightlife society in Paris calling themselves We are the Oracle. It sounded like the name of a strange cult, there were images on the net of people carrying fire torches into dark tunnels and rumours that everything they were doing was completely illegal. (It was).
Five years on from their early days of smuggling guests into forbidden underground locations and abandoned buildings, We are the Oracle have managed to get on the right side of the law (ish), but their parties remain as controversial, off-grid and theatrical as ever.
On December 16th, they will be celebrating this five year anniversary as the most unique underground party organisers in the world. After throwing parties in crumbling castles, abandoned bomb shelters, empty swimming pools and deserted train stations, it seems only fitting that this clandestine society returns to its origins.
Oracle (ˈɒrək(ə)l/) noun – a priest or priestess acting as a medium through whom advice or prophecy was sought from the gods.
Puritan naysayers need not apply because this soirée is taking place in none other than a real Parisian church–a big, ominous gothic one, smack in the centre of the city. So if you’re tempted by the taboo and faithful to the fantasy, I’ll meet you on the night of December 16th for a Parisian adventure to remember.
Dress the part– think Da Vinci code, Illuminati (or Madonna in “Like a Prayer”).
Reserve your places here. The location will be revealed 24 hours before. Follow for the cloaked figures holding fire torches.
